Many citizens suffer in silence. However, mental illness affects everyone in one way or another, which highlights the importance of raising awareness in our communities. Together, we can fight the stigma surrounding mental illness, provide support, educate the masses and advocate for proper care and treatment. This month and year round, we must stay committed to seeking a better understanding of mental illness and supporting those afflicted. You may also find more information by visiting www.flclerks.com Related Articles Honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month October is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Pinellas County Clerk's office is once again dedicating several activities to help raise awareness of this serious and preventable crime. Veteran Stand Down Court Event Postponed The Pinellas County Veteran Stand Down Court Event provides supplies and services to veterans in need of food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, and VA Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans can also receive referrals to other assistance such as healthcare, housing solutions, employment, substance use treatment, and mental health counseling. Domestic Violence Survivors Receive Much Needed Help from Pinellas Clerk’s Office Fundraiser Continuing with a yearly tradition, the Pinellas Clerk’s office led with their hearts and collected a grand total of $5,744.75 through the sale of t-shirts, gift basket raffle tickets and donations during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The monetary donation was divided between CASA and the Haven to further their lifesaving efforts in the county. Veterans Stand Down Court Event Set for April 14th This community event provides supplies and services to homeless Veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and VA Social Security benefits counseling. Veterans are encouraged to attend the event and have their cases reviewed to see if old fines and costs can be waived. Veterans who are being held back by longstanding court costs, fines, and even some minor warrants related to a municipal ordinance or inactive criminal cases in Pinellas County, are encouraged to attend the event and have their cases reviewed to see if those old fines and costs can be waived.
